The LaFate Gallery was established in 1993 in Wilmington, Delaware by Eunice LaFate. Eunice is an award winning folk artist who has received numerous honors for her art and her work with community projects including the 2007 Christi Award for Outstanding Community Service/Volunteerism in the Arts, the 2004 Delaware Division of the arts Individual Artist Fellowship and the 2014 Governor’s Award for the Arts. The LaFate Gallery showcases a 20-year inventory of “Folk Art Themed” paintings available for viewing and purchase.

LaFate’s paintings are included in the permanent collection of the Delaware Folk Life Program at the Blue Ball Barn Museum in Alpacas Run Stare Park, Wilmington and lithographs of her paintings are in the art collections at President Clinton’s Library in Little Rock, AR. As an educator, artist, former banker, human services administrator, writer, story-teller and public speaker on Folk Art and Culture, Eunice LaFate has made an impact on the lives of countless people by sharing her talents, her art and her respect for diversity.

The gallery offers workshops for artists of all ages and levels. The workshops currently offered in the space include

Arts As Prevention A Documentary 

In this class participants will view Eunice’s 20-minute documentary that highlights the importance of involving youth in the arts. Participants will also view the image of LaFate’s painting, “Melting Pot vs Salad Bowl, and then create a work of art on the topic “Race Relations”.

Heart Of Caregiving Rebounding From Grief to Growth

In this class, participants will share ways of coping with grief and work on an individual pieces of art on paper or note card. The leader of the workshop will share samples of her artwork and creative writing on the topic of grief coping.

The Art Of Business… How To Transform A Hobby Into A Business

In this class participants will discover their latent talents and explore steps to develop their own plans for a business venture. The presenter will draw on her own business experience to review the steps of transforming a hobby or interest into a business.

As a folk art venue, the LaFate Gallery provides a wide range of folk-themed art created by owner Eunice LaFate. The Gallery is committed to community outreach and will collaborate with local and regional artists to bring a variety of arts and crafts to the Wilmington Downtown community. LaFate Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The gallery is closed on Sunday and Monday and guests may schedule a gallery tour by appointment.
