THE HUNGER PROJECT
The Hunger Project (THP) empowers women and men to end their own hunger and poverty on a sustainable basis through an integrated, replicable and affordable approach to people‐centered development. THP programs in Africa, South Asia and Latin America provide women and men living in poverty with the opportunity to lead healthy and productive lives, meet their own basic needs and build better futures for their children.
Empowering women to be full partners and agents of change is a key element in the organization’s approach. Working with clusters of villages of around 10,000 people, communities are mobilized and trained to access local services, play a greater part in local decision making and have their voice heard.
“Our unique integrated approach and unwavering commitment to fostering self‐reliance means that, in Africa, for example, we are able to withdraw financial support from communities after about five years. By this time, our “epicenters” are economically vibrant with greater resilience to withstand economic and environmental shocks“.
