ST GEORGE MARATHON
Rated by Runner’s World as one of the four “Marathons to Build a Vacation Around” in the World, the St George marathon is a point-to-point race which is USA Track & Field Certified & Sanctioned. Runner`s World listed the St. George Marathon as the fastest fall marathon. A fun race indeed–and scenic, the St George Marathon was included in Runner`s World 10 Most Scenic and Fastest Marathons and Top 20 Marathons in the USA. It begins in the majestic Pine Valley mountains and descends nearly 2600 feet through scenic southwest Utah, to the beautiful Worthern Park.
The marathon teamed up with local races and 30 races throughout the state of Utah as well as many local charities to offer unique programs to help runners guarantee an entry, bypass our lottery and ensure a spot in future races. In addition, administration of the marathon sought to honor past and present runner’s who have made an impact on the St. George Marathon by inducting them into programs such as the Ten Year Club and The Road of Fame. The St. George Marathon hosts many events during race weekend in conjunction with the Marathon. Walk the last 2 miles of the course as a family or give your children a chance to cross the marathon finish line. This year’s winners were Aaron Metler and Amber Green, both St George natives.
Metler first ran the marathon in 2010, winning first place, with a time of 2:22:08. He won again last year. This year, Metler said his goal was to finish in the 2:17 time range, adding he had no doubt he would hit his goal. Metler broke his collarbone in April this year but pushed through and started training for the marathon in June. Amber Green won the women’s division of the St. George Marathon this year. Green came in first place for the women’s division last year as well.
