ALONE-OLOGY
“Alone-ology” is a one-hour study of the human experience of being alone or lack there of. The subject was inspired by Maya Angelou’s poem “Alone” and takes the audience from the emptiness of materialism to the value of authentic interactions and the love of another human being. This 10 person, cast features powerful music, live poetry, singing and choreography from jazz legend Sheila Barker as well as Hip Hop professionals Joanna Numata & Carlos Neto. Coming to the conclusion that “nobody but nobody can make it out here alone, “Alone-ology” leaves the audience with hope in a symphony of diverse voices. The production will raise funds to help support the care and education of Natasha, a child from Rock Orphanage in Hyderabad, India.
Lauren Cox, Producer of Alone-ology, is currently on staff at the prestigious Joffrey Ballet School in the Jazz & Contemporary program and also holds a degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University. She is the Founding Director of Humans Collective, a Dance, Art Philanthropy Company that weaves together all past experiences and talents with purpose. The Humans Collective will premiere Alone-ology on Thursday, May 28th at The Nuyorican Poets Cafe from 7:30 PM – 9:00. Alone-ology is a beautiful new contribution of art that is bringing dancers and choreographers together to tackle the though provoking concept of being alone.
